Beating the Heat – How To Stay Cool During the Humid Summer Days?

If you ask anyone, ‘which is your favorite season?’ The most common answer you will get is summer because summer is the season when you can get killer tan if you live near a beach. Summer is also the season for beach and pool parties. Moreover, kids get the longest vacation during summer, so families tend to go away together for a long time during summer.

But like any other good thing, summer also has its cons. This is the season when you’ll feel humid most of the time, and if you live in a place like Florida, you’re most likely to feel humid all the time because it is really hot out there. To battle this humidity, you might seek solace in your air conditioning system, but it is inevitable that due to excessive use during summer, your air conditioning system might break down and need repair. Then you should seek professional help from places like Air and Energy of NWFL and the others around you.

If you feel hot and humid even after doing so or setting your thermostat to the optimum level, follow some simple steps apart from using your air conditioning system to stay cool during summer. Scroll down to find out.

Drink as Much Water as You Can

Staying hydrated is the easiest thing you can do to survive humid weather. To achieve that, you need to drink as much water as you can. Some say the ideal amount is two liters, some say three, and others say five liters. I would say drink as much as you think is enough for you. Make sure it isn’t less than two because that’s the minimum amount a healthy person should drink.

Also, when you drink more water, you’ll sweat more. Many of you might not know it, but sweating actually helps your body cool down.

It’s a popular belief that icy water helps your body cool down faster; you can give that a try too.

You Should Avoid Caffeine as Much as Possible

For some of you, starting your day with a cup of coffee is a ritual, and leaving that ritual is nearly impossible for you. But if you can only refrain from drinking coffee during summer, your body will thank you for that because coffee revitalizes your nervous system, which will make you sweat. If you live in a humid place like Florida, just imagine that drinking coffee, the humidity of your body will combine with the humidity in the environment, making you sticky and uncomfortable.

That’s why even if you feel sleepy during the whole day, try and avoid caffeine as much as you can to keep your body cool during summer.

Try to wear cotton

Clothes play an important role in keeping your body cool during summer. You might think that the clothes you generally wear are pretty light and breathable, but if you are wearing clothes made of synthetic materials, they’re probably making you sweat more.

For your own comfort, you should wear clothes made of 100 percent cotton. When it comes to breathable fabrics, cotton is the best. Air passes easily through this type of fabric. This means your sweat will evaporate quickly, and you will feel less sticky and uncomfortable if you wear cotton.

Try to Avoid the Sun Between 11 Am to 2 Pm

You will feel the most humid and hot when you are under the sun. So you should avoid the sun between 11 am to 2 pm because this is the period when it shines the brightest. So, you are most likely to get a sunburn during this period. To avoid that, you need to limit your exposure to the sun as much as you can.

If you have school or office during that time and you can’t avoid that period, you need to dress appropriately (preferably clothes made of cotton) to save yourself from sunburn.

Try to Take a Cold Shower Once you get home

No matter how appropriately you dress or how much you avoid the sun while you’re outside, you will still feel hot and sweaty. Also, your core body temperature will be really high because of staying under the sun. To lower that core body temperature and to stop feeling hot and sweaty, you need to take a cold shower. It will help your body to cool down. If you feel tired or lazy to take a shower, putting your feet in cold water also might do the trick.

This will not only help your body to cool down but will also help your muscles and mind to cool down.

Keep Your Bedsheets in the Refrigerator

I know I have raised some eyebrows just by writing that heading! You’re probably thinking what a weird idea it is to keep your bedsheet in the refrigerator to stay cool! But believe me, this is one of the best ideas anyone is ever going to give you for staying cool during summer.

Once you implement this idea, you’re going to wonder why didn’t you try it earlier! So to get the feeling of lying on ice on a hot summer day, make sure to put your bedsheet in your fridge or freezer for 30 minutes before you go to sleep.

Now you know all the simple hacks to survive the humid days of summer. So, if you want to stay cool and comfortable during summer, make sure to try out these ideas. Hope you’re going to have a wonderful summer with your loved ones.
