1.There Are Health Benefits of Having Plants or an Indoor Garden

This is one benefit almost all of us know about. Yes, you might consider yourself as a really busy and stressed out person who doesn’t have enough time to become a plant person, but actually having them around is making you more healthy. You might wonder how? That is because if you have plants in your home, then they will help you to reduce stress, help you to heal faster. So, having plants or an indoor garden will prove to be beneficial for both your mental and physical health.

2.Buy Plants with Medium to Dark Green Leaves

When purchasing plants for an indoor garden, choose those that are obviously healthy. Unless you are purchasing a plant that is expressly intended to be a bit different, the leaves should be moderate to deep green in hue.

You might wonder, “why should I go through so much trouble just to get  plants of the right color?” Well, that’s because, for plants, all that glitters is gold, because plants that look good are usually in good shape. So, if you buy such plants they will make your house more bright and beautiful.

3. Read the Instructions on Seed Packets

Before planting any seeds, whether they are fruits, vegetables, herbs, or any beautiful seasonal flowers, you should always start by reading the packet in which the seed came in. Those seed packets contain specific guidelines to care for that particular plant, and they should be strictly followed to ensure they grow properly.

4. Choose the Right Containers

While getting pots and containers for your indoor garden, you need to remember that you should get large containers so the roots of the plants have ample room to grow. Generally “greens” like kale, spinach, and lettuce need at least 5 inches of soil depth for their root development. Small bush or vine plants like peppers, cucumbers, beans, and peas need a soil depth of at least 7 inches for their root development. When it comes to root crops like potatoes, turnips, beets, and carrots, they need more room to develop their roots; you will need to select a container that can easily accommodate a soil depth of 12 inches.

Properly sized containers are key for ensuring your success at indoor gardening, so make sure to buy them according to the needs of the specific plants you are growing.

5. You Should Use the Right Watering Cans

Every beginner gardener should understand what tools they need to properly take care of their plants, as well as the watering needs of all their plants. You can fulfill both criteria by making sure you use the proper watering can. Utilize a fine-holed watering can or a mister to avoid overwatering the plants. Gently watering your plants also means there is no chance of bruising their leaves or otherwise causing harm to them.

6. Water Needs Vary

When it comes to determining how frequently and how much water you will need to provide to your plants, there are certain factors you will need to take into consideration. The type of plant, its container, where it is located, and the weather conditions will all affect how much water your plant requires. Keep in mind you may need to change how much water your plants require if any of these variables change.

7. Keep Your Plants at the Right Temperature

While weather conditions may be an obvious factor to consider for beginners, you also need to be aware of the ambient temperature the plants are growing in. While the ideal temperature varies from plant to plant, a good general temperature for optimum plant growth and health is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

8. Place Your Plants By the Window

Just like human beings, plants require Vitamin D. It is required for photosynthesis to take place. That is why it is really essential that you make sure your plants are in an area that is near the window so that they can get enough sunlight. Try and place them by a window that faces south or west because that is sure to provide enough sunlight to the plants.

9. Try to Place Plants Close Together

Humidity also plays an important role in your plants’ health, so you need to make sure that the plants of your indoor garden get the right amount of humidity. Too much or too little humidity can cause harm to your plant’s health.

Most plants used for indoor gardening originate from tropical environments, so they require higher humidity. You won’t be able to provide a tropical environment in your home but you can place your plants close together to create a more humid environment. By doing so, you’ll be able to provide your plants the perfect amount of humidity.

10. Add Small Amounts of Fertilizer as Your Plants Grow

We humans need food for nutrition and plants need fertilizer for their nutrition. While the type of fertilizer you will need depends on the plant and the conditions it is growing in, make sure to apply fertilizer in small amounts rather than using it all at once. Otherwise, you will be wasting fertilizer and possibly even harming the plant.

11. Your Plants Can Get Infested Or Diseased

Just because your plants are growing indoors does not mean they are safeguarded from infestation or disease. You need to regularly monitor your plants for early signs of sickness and pests before they spread.

If you see that one of your plants is infested with pests, isolate the affected plant immediately and then assess whether or not it can be saved.  There are medicines and treatments available for all kinds of infestation or diseases, but you should be careful that you’re choosing the right treatment for the right variety of plants.

In the end, I would say gardening is a perfect hobby that provides leisure, atmosphere, and good health. So if you are someone who couldn’t enjoy gardening due to a lack of space outside your home, I hope this article will help you continue your hobby indoors.
